Finland has become the first country to approve construction of a permanent disposal facility for spent nuclear fuel.
The Finnish government announced on Thursday that it has given a license to a company that plans to construct a permanent underground nuclear waste repository in Olkiluoto, southwestern Finland.
If completed, spent nuclear fuel will be encapsulated in metal containers and buried in bedrock at a depth between 400 and 450 meters. (…)
