After being rerouted to avoid protesters, a train carrying 123 metric tons of nuclear waste has crossed from France into Germany. Some 40,000 demonstrators have gathered near Gorleben, where the waste will be stored.
Police in Germany’s northeastern Wendland region prepared for acts of left-wing violence Saturday, as between 30,000 and 50,000 anti-nuclear demonstrators gather in the region, mainly in the northern town of Dannenberg.
