PARIS—France’s oldest nuclear reactor, in Fessenheim, is fit to run 10 more years, providing operator Électricité de France SA carries out improvements such as reinforcing the first reactor’s base by June 2013, the country’s nuclear-safety agency said Monday.
State-controlled EDF must also install additional equipment to ensure heat evacuation in case of a loss of cooling at Fessenheim-1, the agency said.
