Evacuation areas around crippled nuclear plant expanded



The government on Monday expanded evacuation areas around the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant beyond a 20-kilometer radius from the plant, as cumulative radiation levels have become high in wider areas.

People living in the newly designated municipalities — Katsurao, Namie, Iitate, part of Kawamata and part of Minamisoma — will be asked to evacuate within one month, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano told a news conference.
