Mercredi 6 novembre 2013

Day of Action 2013
UK : CADU call out for action
On November 6th, the UK Campaign Against Depleted Uranium are organising a mass walk-on at the Dundrennan DU testing range, near Kirkcudbright in Scotland.
November 6th is the International Day of Action Against Depleted Uranium Weapons. It is also the United Nations’ Day for Prevention of the Exploitation of the Environment during Wars and Armed Conflicts.
DU weapons have been used in the Balkans and Iraq. When fired they leave a toxic dust that may be cause of rising birth defects and cancers that are devastating families in these regions.
Even though they knew from the beginning that it would not be publically acceptable, the Ministry of Defence has fired DU into the Solway Firth as a part of its test firing programme for over 30 years. Over 31 tons of DU remain at the bottom of the Firth while the MOD have no idea how this impacts ecosystems.
In March CADU forced the UK MOD to U-turn on its plans to fired DU as a part of test firing due to take place this year. But we can’t stop there, we need to build on this success and make sure the MOD never fires DU in Scotland again.
To this end we will hold the Day of Action Against Depleted Uranium Weapons on the Dundrennan Range. We will walk on to the range en masse and release (biodegradable) balloons with messages of solidarity to all of those suffering the effects of toxic wars in Iraq.
Depleted Uranium, not acceptable in Scotland ! Not Acceptable in Iraq !
