FRANCE tried to sell Saddam Hussein a nuclear weapon, it was claimed yesterday.
Top Iranian commander General Mir-Feisal Baqerzadeh said the offer was made to Iraq in 1987 during the Iran-Iraq war by an official of then-President Francois Mitterand’s government.
Baqerzadeh told Iranian TV that hush-hush documents showed Hussein was offered “a very small type” of nuclear weapon on the condition it was kept secret — but could not afford it.
